Justice Movement of India Hosts a Pivotal Round Table Discussion on Urban Flooding in Hyderabad | Flood Free Hyderabad

Hyderabad, 03.11.2024 –The Justice Movement of India (JMI) organised a round table discussion on “Community Voices on Flood Free Hyderabad” on November 3rd at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram in Hyderabad. This event, part of the #FloodFreeHyderabad campaign, aimed to integrate insights from flood victims, experts, and citizens into flood prevention strategies. The discussion follows JMI’s policy white paper release and meeting with the HYDRA Commissioner.

Hyderabad’s recurring floods have prompted JMI to organise a round table discussion to address the issue. The event featured testimonies from flood victims and expert discussions on sustainable flood management strategies. The aim is to involve governmental agencies, experts, and local communities in developing effective prevention measures.

“We have experienced the devastation firsthand and seek long-term solutions rather than temporary relief. It is vital that our concerns translate into action.” Surender Kummula

“This event is a crucial step towards fostering a dialogue that bridges gaps between policy and practice. We need policies that not only prevent but also prepare us better for future challenges,” added Akarsh Sriramoju

With the insights gathered today, JMI plans to refine its strategies and continue pressing for the implementation of the comprehensive policies outlined in the previously released white paper to the Government of Telangana.

As JMI continues to advocate for a robust flood management system, we urge all stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and media representatives, to join us in this critical mission. Your support is instrumental in driving the changes needed to protect and enhance Hyderabad’s resilience against flooding.
