On October 27th, as part of the #FloodFreeHyderabad campaign, Justice Movement of India (JMI) organisers visited Saroornagar Lake in Hyderabad. The visit highlighted the critical role the lake plays in the local community’s lives and the devastating impact of its neglect.
Locals shared personal stories of how the lake once supported livelihoods, provided environmental balance, and stood as a symbol of their heritage. Today, however, it suffers from severe pollution, encroachments, and mismanagement. The community voiced their frustration, holding the government accountable for its failure to protect this vital water body.
The visit underscored the urgent need for sustainable lake management and proactive flood prevention measures. JMI remains committed to amplifying these voices and advocating for policies that prioritize the health of Hyderabad’s lakes and its people.
